Did he kill the Telnic Forum?
Invitation to all the banned forum members:
Please post, why, and how you got banned, respectively, if there was a mentioned reason for banning you from the forum.
However, from my point of view, Aled Williams had banned all the brains and important contributers from the forum, and that, as a result of that, the numbers of active forum members had gone back, from about thirty, to about five regular active members, within only a few months. If you will, the forum is pritty much dead, at the moment.
7th December 2010:
Currently Active Users: 6 (0 members and 6 guests).
The retrogressive development is only one of the many evidences of incapacity, shown by the Telnic management, up and till this day.
.
I wasn't banned the first time round, I asked to be blocked from visiting the forum just before they removed the community evangelist and outreach employee Nadya, she changed my account into a guest one so that I could not post and I was fine with that as their dragging of feet on basic bug fixes and features was enraging me and the community and I didn't want to rage at them or the community aka what was left of it.
ReplyDeleteSO I left because it was becoming apparent I was spending my entire day banging my head against a brick wall as I believed they had no intention of doing anything we asked and I believe now only relented after I'd gone due to the gradual pressure from other members who basically wanted what was natural on a website/site/domain etc.
The second time I came back with another account I was never approved to post and contacted another member to ask if they'd post an idea for me, as I seemed to be never allowed to express it as I was in a permanent limbo, this was against the rules and I accept being banned however if they had approved my account sooner that was linked to my .tel I would have not needed to progress into a situation where I was desperate to get an idea out but could not due to their incompetence.
If they had any sense they might have given just the unapproved a hidden forum or thread where they can post ideas without it spamming the boards, like one thread for a hello I am ... and this is my idea and I would like to be approved.
Were now in 2012 and what have we got? well we've lost more than we've gained, we now have essentially 'bought in' to being represented by a communication's company that touts an open domain and information structure but locks it's forums down and won't really communicate with what's left of it's own community unless it lies about features or not fully telling us what they're doing.
At this point they should just remove the forum completely and increase the size of the feedback form or instruct people to email ideas to idea.lab@telnic.org or something inspiring as if they're willing to listen to pitches.
ReplyDeleteWe've been stripped of the roadmap, the ability to view the forum when not logged in, the promise of an updated control panel that never arrived, the updated themes that never arrived on time or likely to specification, been force fed excuses and left to stew in our own anger, undermined by now adding features they explicitly refused to implement 2 years ago, adding features as api only which is great for developers but neglects really adding features to the CP which is what most people will use and wonder why they can't.
(they could have at least added a multi choice click url to 3rd party services if not implementing the entire 'feature' in the CP, that redirects you and that auto logs you in from openid so you can add the adverts and icons and what ever, but what we get is a system that is clumsy and features that are only touted in their website that no one reads as they're focused on their CP, aka FPCC First Point of Contact & control)
If they did that multi choice drop down for 3rd party services it would be listed under the 'add new item', then > before location drop down as a drop down box eg '3rd party information' then a list of types of information like 'advert' > 'avatar' > 'background' > and then a list of who provides it with openid with auto accept re-directed links as they're approved 3rd party services with existing keys telnic granted them so no need to login when you click them or they could open in the CP as an embedded page like FB does with apps.
It should also have a rank star system or if not a drop down with all 3rd party services listed the ability to pick and pin 3rd party services into that new drop down box.
Anyway I'm not happy with telnic and I'm worried they're planning on only releasing in the new themes that were promised for everyone in generic proxy just now on telnames that wants to charge us £15 per domain and puts normal registrars at disadvantage other than on price and on the fact they as 'name told me' didn't know they could dev their own proxy and themes etc.
If I was running telnic this is what I'd do, I'd immediately sell off the lucrative offices they have and buy a cyber cafe in an area that is known for web developers and offer free wifi for coffee and code, I'd brand it purple with an anthropomorphic mobile character (rabbit or like telchina did panda) that represents us and get someone in that costume to walk around outside with a mobile and ask tourists if they'd like to look up information on those areas and landmarks and have it look in telsearch directories.
ReplyDeleteThen I'd allow embedded apps in the CP like I said above like FB does and I'd host the server at the cyber cafe that serves it.
Then I'd offer a £50 a day competition for best tel app so it encourages out of work php etc coders to come to the cafe, chill out, play ps3 and games, and spend on coffee and code in order to win the £50 it would be a hang out for coders a cool cafe that's trendy and forward thinking where discussions take place on all topics and there is no discrimination of anyone's idea or pov.
